What Makes a Good Restaurant?

When you dress-up to go out for a nice dinner you have certain expectations. You want the place to be classy or romantic (depending on what type of restaurant you choose.) You want the food to taste exceptionally well. Lastly, you want the food presentation to be spectacular.

1) Food
Food is the main reason people go out to eat. A certain favorite dish or getting to try something new and adventurous are two of the reasons people get dressed-up and pay big money for reservations at a great restaurant. The anticipation of specialties and creamy, sumptuous desserts bring you and your friends together for birthday’s, anniversaries and other celebrations.

Think of the food for a minute. It must be delicious. Nobody wants to pay for a steak only to receive an over-cooked piece of meat. Likewise with pastas – the noodles need to be al-dente. They should not be sticking together in big clumps. After all, you are paying good money for this meal.

2) Experience
Presentation is another part of the overall experience of eating at a nice restaurant in Lake Las Vegas. When your plate arrives it will be garnished. Desserts may have chocolate shavings and raspberry syrup may dot the plate in different-sized circles. It is all about the visual appeal of your meal. You eat with your eyes before you eat with your mouth.

Your overall experience is not limited to how the food is presented. Consider your surroundings. Nice music playing from the piano, flickering candles on the table and ambient lighting all combine to set a certain ‘mood’ for your dining experience. The goal is allow you to relax and enjoy your meal.

Depending on the type of restaurant you choose, food could be prepared in an elaborate display right before your eyes. The music may be bumping and the food could be as eclectic as the music. All of this is designed to set the tone for a modern dining experience. Foods may be elaborate and look like works-of-art. Drinks could be large, strong and colorful. Everything depends on what type of dining experience you want.

3) Customer Service
Great service starts with the reservation. Expect to be treated respectfully. The person caring for you should try to help you get the right time and date. Do you want a window or a view of the city? Do you want to propose and you need a secluded area of the restaurant? Tell them when you book the reservation. When you arrive, the hostess should have knowledge of any special requests.

Lastly, no matter how wonderful the dishes tastes or how well it’s presented, if a rude waiter delivers it, the whole dinner experience will be ruined. Customer service is the most important part of the experience. A knowledgeable server can lead you in making delicious choices and recommend the perfect wine to pair with your dish. The server should be professional, friendly and clean. He should anticipate your needs beforehand. He should also be discreet.

Sure, the chef, the building, the art-work and the specialties of the food itself (organic, vegan, Asian-fusion, etc.) are all important to the dining experience overall. Expect the best of everything when you find a great restaurant. Do not settle for anything less. If your food is over overcooked or your waiter is rude – speak up. If it’s really bad or great for that matter, leave a Yelp review as well! Most fantastic and popular restaurants are not cheap. Demand that you get what you paid for – great food, service and experience.

Bon Appetit!
